Re: Radiohead | ||

i like some of their lyrics.
(peruse them here: www.greenplastic.com/lyrics/ ) "You can try the best you can/ If you try the best you can/ The best you can is good enough" "I want to breathe/ I want to grow/ I'd say I want it but I don't know how/ I work, I bleed, I beg, I pray..." "Please forget the words that I just blurted out/ it wasn't me/ it was my strange and creeping doubt/ it keeps rattling my cage/ And there's nothing in this world will keep it down/ and even though I might/ even though I try, I can't/ Even though I might, even though I try, I can't. Soon your things that keep, that keep me underground/ so many words that I, that I can never find/ If you give up on me now/ I'll be gutted like I've never been before" |

YOU DO IT TO YRSELF, YOU DO, THAT'S WHY IT REALLY HURTS for each inch cut the roots grow ten where we can't see them

I must clarify. "The Bends" is one of the best CDs to come out in the 1990's. My comments above refer to "Kid A" specifically.

Get Amnesiac. Kid A is all right once you get into it, but Amnesiac is sincerely the best thing Radiohead have done to date. It's better than The Bends, OK Computer and My Iron Lung (well worth it for the fabulous Bside collection - the only Radiohead album I have loved unconditionally from the start). Get Amnesiac, and listen to it for a day or so, and you should be well and truly hooked.
Disclaimer: I too believe The Bends and OK Computer to be the best albums of the 90s. |

You don't get it. You're not supposed to compare the albums. If you were supposed to compare them, they would be similar. You must look at them as a whole and understand their synchronicity. Five seperate albums, operating in completely seperate dimesions of space and time, but all resonating together. Radiohead understand the potential intelligence of the universe and simply exploite it. You're all thinking about it too much. Just appreciate them all as a whole, not the individual pieces.

How can Radiohead not be the best band in existence at this time? I urge everyone to listen to all of their songs, and thus all of their albums, in order to get a picture of the band as a whole. Radiohead is not a band which can be judged by listening to only one or two of its songs (i.e. Britney Spears, Backdoor Boys, N'Stink, any 'Rap Metal,' Metal or Pop band). The listener must experience the Radiohead sound as a journey, the sum of the parts.

Every song represents a piece of a currently unfinished puzzle. Every song I hear, whether I like it or not, leaves me drooling in anticipation for the next piece of the puzzle. The problem is that so many people are simply incapable of understanding the intricacies and beauty of Radiohead's music, therefore these people listen to pop-culture drivel which they can easily comprehend. That particular phenomenon is why most pop-culture bands are around for 3 years, at the maximum, and then are never heard from again except to be featured on the inanely simple "E!" channel as a "Where Are They Now?" episode. I have sympathy for these dolts, these simpletons, these incurable followers of all things shiny and pretty. I do not, however, empathise with these weak minded fools. It pains me to say that the majority of the citizens of the U.S. fall into the "dolt" category, and therefore our airwaves will forever be overrun with asinine music aimed at those with no capacity to appreciate or even recognise real art.

I find the vast majority of contemporary music is tepid, because it doesn't believe in itself or have its own personality. It looks to other things to tell it what to do, which is encouraged by the corporate musical entities, who want something that sounds like something people dug, and more importantly, bought. The corporate music business mentality that everything has to sound like something else shuts out any other thing, and that's unhealthy for music.

Why aren't we talking about this?
Because its just not as good as the last three. It's not bad, not by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not as good. There I've said it. |

cse: I'm not ready to agree or disagree. I just finally got the CD this week. as with all of their albums, for me, it needs many listenings before I can begin to react at all.

i know what you mean nicke, the last two albums did have to grow on me, and i thought that's what would happen here, but it didn't
sex i've found is usually pretty awkward on the first listen, but then it gets better, but then it gets boring maybe its different for guys |
