I heard it again today. For some good amount of time, I feel that the guitar solo in Edie Brickell's "What I Am" is one of the "best shaped" solos I've heard.
It's not groundbreaking or prolific in any way, it's just the way the solo is shaped: starts on the DL, kind of murmuring along with the wah pedal, then slowly builds to a climactic high set of notes before falling off towards the end. All in 16 measures.
