i've had to learn to force myself not to put so much effort in language when
so many of my premises are faulty to begin with -- i think an essay or
opinion should have a sound content first then style -- if you're starting
with style -- the other way around -- that's fine -- but then it should be a
different kind of work -- it should be a purely visual project or film or
fiction where the story may sort of take shape around the style itself -- i
think you can write a kind story and then let it evolve and let the ideas
come into it later -- let things develop and holes be plugged later -- but
with an essay -- if your argument is wrong -- it's wrong -- and so you may
find yourself putting a lot of effort into patching it up when you should
have just scuttled it early on.
