...esp in comparison w each other. that would be great. I tried to get a friend to read houellebecq so we could discuss, but after elementary particles he just said it was good but he was too depressed to talk about it.

has anyone read any of his work? I read 'elementary particles' ('atomisation' if you're in the uk) last winter, and just finished 'platform' this morning. would love to talk about one/both of these books. (he has a third called 'whatever' that I'll have to read now.)

i think it would have been more hilarious if michel houellebecq had said that--i mean if he had say written a few chapters and then been like, "i'd like to go on and explain more about elementary particles, but it's just too god damn depressing." book ends.

wait a minute. it just occurred to me. is this hollebulleq some kind of science writer or is this fiction? for my recent joke, i was thinking of him as a science writer. that's what was making it funny. if he is a fiction writer (a great fiction writer) ((the best fiction writer of all time)) (((dave eggers))) then it's not funny. i would like (for my joke) for everyone to imagine stephen hawking sitting there writing a book on neutrino theory and saying, 'I'd like to go on to characterize the origins of negative matter in the context of very small particles, but it's just too depressing.'
now does everyone see? |

you're right.
but he's not a science writer. your joke, though, makes me want to draw a cartoon like that. maybe I will. cartoons are my forte you know. maybe if you're nice I'll draw a cartoon that really kicks ass and send it. |

what about him? | ||

I never did figure out why so many people got bent out of shape over him. Called him all sorts of nasty names.

cb: lay it on me. I might be rusty. out of practice. but I love drawing cartoons & they love me right back.
jizake: I suspect people might talk shit about him because he's super misanthropic... has, er, unconventional attitudes about sex/relationships... possibly racist tho he's so misanthropic it's hard to say... has some sharp words for muslims... pessismistic to the point of being maybe sociopathic... but who says novelists have to be nice guys? |

Nickel, can you point some of these things out? Clearly I've missed something.

I don't understand. have you read his books (which ones)? I actually like his work. I was describing what some might find offensive about him, not necessarily what I think of him. hell, I barely know the guy. could you ask a longer question maybe?
