Let me know what you think.
Remember to tell the bartender "it's called a Lolita", in the hopes that it will catch on and become a drink that we don't have to explain over and over.

not sure if that's how you spell it (does it really matter?) but in case you've been wondering what to do with it, here's a suggestion: A friend of mine in LA named Lola made this up (or says she did at least), so I decided to name it the Lolita. Which makes sense in more ways than one, because it will surely remember of your childhood fave, the Shirley Temple. Tell the bartender to give you a highball with ice, Stoli Vanil, Seltzer (club soda) and top it off with a lil' smidgeon of maraschino juice. Throw a cherry on it and sip it with a straw. I have a feeling it will be your drink of choice for September.

I would do this if I drank flavored Everclear, which is what Stoli Vanil is.
But thanks for the tip. When I do order mixed drinks, I'm a total bastard person and order stupid things like Stingers and Rob Roys and Pousse l'Amour. Bartenders usually pour vodka in a shaker with a few other things that they hope will approximate the color. Yum! |

I don't drink mixed drinks, as it would take time & energy away from the cultivation of my girlish beer belly, and also all good liquor deserves to be swilled from a shot glass. but I like this stoli drink only bc it's called lolita, and does evoke the palefaced red sunglasses lollipop lolita of kubrick's depiction.

Do you realize... | ||
|
...that you could probably get a magazine or Cartoon Network deal based on the term "girlish beer belly." |

well I've already got a magazine, sort of -- "one that has included numerous tallboys and shots of tequila, having to run from the bar back to my apartment for more cash for more tequila, almost falling into my own trash can, having to check the call log on my cell phone to see whom I might've called while drunk, and so on." so I'll take that cartoon network deal, thanks, that would be sweet.

the best thing about a cocktail with only one liquor in it, that liquor being vodka, is that you can continually switch cocktails throughout an evening (or, ah-hem, afternoon) without mixing liquors! (by some accounts this could be genius. By alcoholic accounts. Or, for instance, by mine).
Thus, the dear tender young Lolita can be followed by a wonderful drink in a martini glass, and then, to take it down a notch, by a yet un-named drink which I would now like to share with you. This would be for the would-be Lolita drinkers who, unlike our friend Humbert-Humbert, have some self-restraint (or who just want something a little less sweet). Absolut Mandrin with seltzer and a fat slice of lime. MMMMMMMM the perfect summer spritzer. Does anyone out there have a name for this one? What about the Humbert Humbert? |

if you want vodka and the thought of remaining sober for the time it takes to mix up a number of complicated drinks and consume them scares you more than....something scary, try a vodka slammer. just like the tiquila version only with sugar and orange instead of salt and lemon. mmmmmm, quick fix.

Who said you were a pot smoker? Am I too sober to read this thread? |

apparently that's my title, accorded by CB. Yours is Super freak. That's not bad, that's pretty good. But I guess I can live with Pot Smoker.
